In a constantly changing and high-paced business environment, organisations need to achieve continuous improvement in all their resources. Key to their success is their people resource. E-learning now plays a critical role in people development.

By using e-learning as part of a blended training and development solution, organisations can rise to the challenge that the only competitive advantage left today is to change faster than their competitors. Organisations that implement e-leaning can provide their employees with the ability to turn change into competitive advantage.

E-learning is therefore now a vitally important contributor to the long term success of both individuals and organisations.

E-Learning encourages freedom and flexibility in learning.

In a hybrid or blended training approach, where face-to-face and online learning each have a specific role, elearning becomes more of flexible learner support tool before and/or after any face-to-face training session.  The result is a more personalised and customised learning process that empowers the learner.  The learner takes command of the learning process, while the instructor assumes the role of a coach, encouraging the learner to achieve the learning objectives.

When creating a training program, and including e-learning, the flexibility and quality of learning will be enhanced by:
  • Providing access to a range of resources and materials which may not otherwise be available or accessible, for example graphics, sound, animation, multimedia
  • Giving control to students over when and where they study
  • Allowing students to study at their own pace
  • Providing a student centred learning environment which can be tailored to meet the learning needs of individual students
  • Creating an environment that promotes an active approach to learning
  • Providing frequent and timely individual feedback, using assignments
  • Supporting economic re-use of high quality resources
