Development centres are fast becoming an essential device for the accurate assessment of individual development needs. Development centres need to focus on competencies relevant to future personal growth, and the activities used need to be customised to the organisation's business. Personal development plans need to be produced following development centres, and both participants and their managers need to be equipped to deliver these plans. The coaching abilities of managers are critical to the success of these plans.
